Ghanaian-American DJ and producer Akua is a leading light in North America’s new school of machine funk, archiving and activating the revolutionary sonics of Detroit, Chicago and New York City for a new generation. Currently based in Berlin, her sound embraces techno's longstanding transatlantic connection, while also reverberating beyond those borders. She first played at Horst back in 2022 and now she’s back, this time together with one of techno's true underground heroes, Function (Dave Sumner). Active for over 30 years, he is a core member of the Sandwell District collective and an Ostgut Ton and Tresor recording artist. From his first release on Damon Wild’s Synewave records in 1996, through his collaborative work with Regis on pivotal Birmingham techno label Downwards, to the material produced as Sandwell District alongside Regis and the late Silent Servant, throughout, Function has been busy rearranging modern dance music’s DNA. These two promise fireworks at this year’s Horst Festival.
