In Between Matter and Meaning, Vanluffelen explores how meaning takes shape through movement, language, objects and gestures. The performance lets them circulate and collide: symbols shift meaning, gestures become charged, and bodies and objects continuously redefine one another. The work emerges at the intersections between the sacred and the playful, the physical and the virtual. Amber looks at how fiction and dramaturgy inspired by gaming can offer a framework for questioning socio-economic realities and experiences.

During the 2026–27 club season, Amber Vanluffelen joins Horst as Performer in Residence. Across two club weekends, Between Matter and Meaning will unfold as an evolving performance within the specific context of Horst Club. The residency gives Vanluffelen space to further develop the work through research, scenography, sound and performance, allowing it to transform between its first and second presentation.

Amber Vanluffelen (Belgium) is a multidisciplinary artist working across performance, digital image-making, sculpture, poetry and installation. Their practice unfolds through processes of world-building, where symbols, gestures, and objects move between physical and virtual realms. Drawing from nightlife, anime, sports, video gaming, and spiritual inquiry, they transform cultural and personal references into images, sculptures, and performances. These intersections between the sacred and the playful shape a field where symbols, beliefs, and cultural references interact. Their work often takes the form of open structures that function as contexts for activation, choreography, enabling gestures, objects, and performances to emerge in response to specific socio-economic conditions.
