Rod Modell aka DeepChord is a sound designer and musician whose career has spanned 25 years and over 50 releases under various aliases and styles. Having started out with more ambient forms of sonic experimentation, while at art school in Detroit he became submersed in the city's blossoming early 90s techno scene. The DeepChord project, co-founded with Mike Schommer in the late 90s and resulting in the highly-reputed eponymous record label (led by Rod solo from the early 00s onwards), pushed a second-wave Basic Channel sound, while the Echospace project, formed with Steve Hitchell aka Soultek in the mid 00s, dove further into dubbed-out minimal. Rod has also executed a stream of remixes for esteemed figures including Juan Atkins, Convextion, Slam and the late Aaron-Carl. At Horst, he makes one of his rare appearances playing live as DeepChord.
