New York-born Gabrielle Kwarteng has charted an ascendent path since her earliest gigs a decade ago. Born in Brooklyn to Ghanaian parents but raised in the Bronx, Gabrielle’s childhood was soundtracked by a mix of first-wave Highlife, Afrobeat and disco. Nowadays she slips fluidly through a mix of heady 80s and 90s US house, disco interpretations that traverse diaspora and eras, and the futurist pulse of physical, emotive techno. From playing at fabric’s 25th birthday, Berghain’s Silvester celebrations and even for FKA Twigs’ 2024 Met Gala afterparty, Gabrielle expertly matches the requisite energy of wherever she happens to be. She was part of the inaugural lineup at Horst Club back in late 2023, and now she returns for another round at this year’s festival.
