Not everyone grows up with the sea in his backyard. Sliding through the salty waters next to his parents’ residence in Zeeland, the Rotterdam based Oceanic found what he’d like the most: trancey percussion over floating ungraspable rhythms. By holding a monthly residency at Amsterdam club De School, he developed a knack for tracing lines between unpredictable genres whilst never taking his eye off the dance floor; making him one of the most exciting DJ talents of The Netherlands.
Besides his solo career Oceanic is deeply connected to the Amsterdam underground scene where he presents his style at festivals like Dekmantel and Draaimolen. He’s released on labels like Nous’klaer Audio and is an artist who’s always experimenting with musical structures and emotions. His sets are layered and improvisational and feel like an ever evolving story where rhythmic subtlety and unexpected melodies meet.
In 2019 he was part of the roster of SHAPE, an EU-funded network and platform for experimental artists. The coming years he continues his collaboration with legendary Dutch free-jazz vocalist Greetje Bijma, and with the avant garde classical Ensemble Klang form The Hague. As for what’s on the horizon, there’s no doubt that Oceanic will continue to evolve and surprise us all for many years to come.
