Ambroos De Schepper and Pepijn Gyssels became roommates when PiP first moved to Brussels in 2021, and for a while the two were exposed to each other’s musical approach and interests. One year later, after Ambroos had moved out again, he swung by to pick up some boxes and they decided to record something just for fun. Over the next 18 months, Ambroos would come round more often with his saxophone, a clarinet, some FX pedals or an unusual flute, and once they’d jammed for a bit he’d head off, leaving PiP to do what he pleased with the recordings. The result was the ‘Sans Loup’ EP, released last year on PiP’s ZitStill Records: a six-track collection that prioritises psychedelic textures and lingering atmospheres over formal tonality. Live, the duo works with a curious mixture of machines and real instruments, Ambroos’s saxophone bouncing off PiP’s electronics and field recordings. We are thrilled to host their unique live performance at this year’s Horst Festival!
