Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Takuya Nakamura moved to the United States in 1990 to study under the legendary jazz theorist and composer George Russell. Under Russell’s tutelage, Nakamura honed his craft and developed a profound understanding of jazz theory and composition, which would become fundamental to his innovative approach to electronic music. His versatility as a musician and DJ allowed him to collaborate with an impressive array of artists across different genres, becoming a member of cult bands such as Jojo’s Mayer’s Nerve and Cocorosie. He has worked with legendary figures such as the late Quincy Jones, David Byrne and Arto Lindsay, bringing his distinctive sound to numerous recordings and live performances. Recent projects have blended his deep jazz roots with cutting-edge electronic production, as seen in his inventive, exploratory live shows, and we cannot wait to see what he brings to Horst Festival this year.
