Sounak Das is a multimedia artist currently undergoing MEDIAE 2024/25 Online Masterclass on Transmedia Storytelling, PhMuseum. He studied MA in Visual Arts and Post-Contemporary practice from Masters Institute of Visual Cultures, Netherlands. With a passion for storytelling he has a background in documentary photography and journalism from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, Bangladesh. His creative process involves the amalgamation of photography, sound, film & moving images, sculptural installations and blending technologies to engage in immersive- interactive installations.

He is captivated by the experimental use of media and technology in art. He means to analyze the causality of his lived experiences subsumed in the technocentric age, bridging the human, machine and nature relation as an intrinsic entanglement. He explores the deeper philosophical and metaphysical implications of technology and human existence in contemporary culture.

His works have been part of many international exhibitions, festivals and biennales including Eindhoven Foto Festival 2023, Research Lab 2022 Eye Filmmusuem, Chobimela 2021, Dhaka Art Summit 2020, Sony World Photography Awards 2019, The Royal Photographic Society and Kochi
Student’s Biennale 2018. He has been shortlisted for Samdani Art Award 2020, Lensculture Art Photography Awards 2019 and Aminul Islam Young Artist award 2018. He has also published his works with The Guardian, Tages Anzeiger, Google Art & Culture, Het Nieuwe Institute and F-stop Magazine.

This pavilion was originally designed as the physical structure for Where Do The Ants Go?, Afrah Shafiq's interactive artwork on display in 2024 as part of the Horst expo. Originating from a collaboration between Horst, BC Materials and students from the Faculty of Architecture at RWTH Aachen, the pavilion was constructed from clay bricks, a circular and environmentally friendly building material. This sustainable design not only provided an experimental space for Shafiq's work, but now further functions as a platform for new art projects. This year, the pavilion forms the backdrop for a new sound art piece, continuing the dialogue between architecture, ecology and technology.

Zijn creatieve proces bestaat uit de samensmelting van fotografie, geluid, film en bewegende beelden, sculpturale installaties en de vermenging van technologieën om te komen tot meeslepende en interactieve installaties. Hij probeert de causaliteit van zijn ervaringen in het technocentrische tijdperk te analyseren, waarbij hij een verband legt tussen mens, machine en natuur als een intrinsieke verstrengeling. Hij verkent de diepere filosofische en metafysische implicaties van technologie en het menselijk bestaan in de hedendaagse cultuur.

Dit paviljoen werd oorspronkelijk ontworpen als de fysieke structuur voor Where Do The Ants Go?, het interactieve kunstwerk van Afrah Shafiq dat in 2024 te zien was als onderdeel van de Horst-expo. Ontstaan uit een samenwerking tussen Horst, BC Materials en studenten van de faculteit Architectuur van RWTH Aachen, is het paviljoen opgebouwd uit leemstenen, een circulair en milieuvriendelijk bouwmateriaal. Dit duurzame ontwerp bood niet alleen een experimentele ruimte voor Shafiqs werk, maar functioneert nu verder als een platform voor nieuwe kunstprojecten. Dit jaar vormt het paviljoen het decor voor een nieuw geluidskunstwerk, waarbij de dialoog tussen architectuur, ecologie en technologie wordt voortgezet.
