About the artwork
As part of the new architectural interventions in Asiat Park, Burden of Dreams offers both a fireplace and a shelter. Located between winding paths and the façade of the existing building, it occupies a small fragment of land: an in-between space, often crossed but rarely inhabited.
The project is born from a single gesture: a lightweight structure leaning against the existing wall to form a large inclined roof. Between ground, wall, and canopy, a generous space unfolds simultaneously open and protective. Above the roof, a slender chimney rises like a quiet signal, announcing the fire from afar. On the wooden platform, visitors can sit, talk, or simply watch the dancing flames.
Under the shelter of the roof, the fire pit takes on a sacred dimension, reminiscent of the Persian teachings of Zoroaster, in which an eternally burning fire symbolizes the inner spark and spiritual purity. While the slender chimney anchors the space, the glow of the fire creates a tranquil atmosphere that pushes everyday chaos into the background. It is a primal gesture that invites dialogue and reminds visitors of their mutual interconnectedness.
About Bureau Barme
Founded in 2021 in Lausanne by Solène Mathieu (1993°, Monaco, MC) and Loïs Bouché (1995°, Annemasse, FR), Bureau Barme explores original spatial systems to offer integrated, sustainable solutions for today's fragmented landscapes. The studio specializes in the renovation and conversion of old buildings, balancing a deep respect for architectural heritage with contemporary lifestyle and energy requirements.
Architect Roxanne Luguern (1993°, Nantes, FR) develops a multidisciplinary practice rooted in material sensitivity and circular construction. Spanning architecture, scenography, and design, her work emphasizes the transformative potential of making and detail. Alongside collaborations with Brussels-based offices like Notan Office and NO90 (including Renolab-awarded projects), she leads an independent practice focused on sustainable, context-sensitive renovation.
Corentin Laurens (1991°, Paris, FR) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose work merges surrealism with everyday objects. By intertwining painting, sculpture, and ceramics, he creates poetic compositions where domesticity and dreamscapes meet. As an active member of the Les Îles Mardi cooperative, he combines traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques an approach recently showcased in the exhibition Convivium at Darwin15.

Over het kunstwerk
Als onderdeel van de nieuwe architecturale interventies in Asiat Park, vormt Burden of Dreams zowel een vuurplaats als een schuilplaats. Gelegen tussen kronkelende paden en de gevel van een bestaand gebouw, neemt het een luwe plek in: een tussenruimte die vaak wordt doorkruist, maar niet wordt gebruikt.
Het project is ontstaan uit één enkel gebaar: een lichte houtconstructie die tegen de bestaande muur leunt en zo een groot, hellend dak vormt. Tussen de grond, de muur en het dak ontvouwt zich een genereuze ruimte die zowel open als beschut aanvoelt. Boven het dak verrijst een slanke schoorsteen als een stil signaal dat de aanwezigheid van het vuur verraadt. Op het houten platform kunnen bezoekers zitten, praten of simpelweg kijken naar de dansende vlammen.
In de luwte van het dak krijgt de vuurplaats een sacrale dimensie, die doet denken aan de Perzische leer van Zarathoestra waarin een eeuwig brandend vuur symbool staat voor de innerlijke vonk en spirituele zuiverheid. Terwijl de slanke schoorsteen de plek verankert, creëert de gloed van het vuur een verstilde ruimte die de alledaagse chaos naar de achtergrond verdringt. Het is een primitief gebaar dat uitnodigt tot oprechte dialoog en bezoekers herinnert aan hun onderlinge verbondenheid.
Over Bureau Barme
Bureau Barme is een architectuurstudio, in 2021 opgericht in Lausanne door Solène Mathieu (1993°, Monaco, MC) en Loïs Bouché (1995°, Annemasse, FR). De studio focust op originele ruimtelijke vormen en duurzame oplossingen voor het hedendaagse landschap. Hun expertise ligt in de renovatie en herbestemming van erfgoed, waarbij ze historische waarde koppelen aan moderne eisen voor wooncomfort en energieverbruik.
De praktijk van Roxanne Luguern (1993°, Nantes, FR) vertrekt vanuit een scherpe focus op materiaal, detail en gebruik. Met een achtergrond in architectuur, scenografie en design, legt zij zich toe op circulaire bouw en duurzame renovatie. Naast haar onafhankelijke praktijk werkt ze samen met Brusselse bureaus zoals Notan Office en NO90 aan bekroonde projecten (o.a. Renolab.b). Haar benadering is fijngevoelig, contextgericht en gedreven door het maakproces.
Corentin Laurens (1991°, Paris, FR) is een multidisciplinair kunstenaar en ontwerper wiens werk doordrenkt is van surrealisme. Hij creëert zowel vrij artistiek werk als meubels en alledaagse objecten. Hij is lid van de vzw Les Îles Mardi. In deze gedeelde werkplek, die een veertigtal kunstenaars verenigt, stimuleert hij de dialoog tussen disciplines door traditioneel vakmanschap te combineren met moderne technieken. In zijn composities verweven schilderkunst, beeldhouwkunst en keramiek zich tot een droomachtig universum waarin objecten en natuurvormen een nieuwe, poëtische betekenis krijgen.
