HoRAbaixa emerges as an open space in the forest, a piazza reminiscent of an ancient agora. The design forms a perimeter of columns, a primitive enclosure built from heavy local Belgian blue stone.
These stones serve as the lasting foundations for a space that balances between a ruin and a monument.
At its center stands a fragile tempietto: a delicate music kiosk that serves as both a tower referring to a campanile and an altar for the DJ. The structure is a tribute to circularity, crafted from reclaimed wood that is now entering its third life. By protecting vulnerable joints with red pine tar, the process of dismantling, repairing, and once again reusing is made visible and tactile.
Suspended above the dancefloor is a large, red sun that never sets. A rising sun around which people gather and dance, the beating heart of Horst’s collective energy. More than just a stage, hoRAbaixa is a folie that invites you in. It is a long-lasting intervention designed to blend into the park and facilitate growth: while the wood slowly ages and the stones develop a patina, time itself becomes an integral part of this new-old space.
Irene Pérez (1976°, Barcelona, ES) and Jaume Mayol (1976°, Mallorca, ES) graduated from the ETSA Vallés. They run the studio TEd’A arquitectes, based in Mallorca.
Irene and Jaume combine their professional practice with teaching. At the moment Jaume is teaching at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, Switzerland. Before they were involved as professors at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, at the University of Stuttgart, at the TU Graz, at the TU Munich, or at the ETSA Vallés or La Salle in Barcelona.
TEd’A arquitectes have been lecturing in many different universities as Cornell University and Harvard GSD (USA), KTH Stockholm and Lund Universitet (Sweden), Aalborg and Aarhus School of Architecture (Denmark), EPFL Lausanne and ETH Zurich (Switzerland), or UDK Berlin and Fakultät für Architektur TU de Munich (Germany), among many others.
Their work has been widely published and exhibited. It stands out their presence in the Venice Biennale 2012, 2016, 2022 and 2024.
TEd’A arquitectes’ work focuses on local resources, local materials and local typologies. They use to say that they prefer evolution to revolution. They prefer to work with small scale projects and they mainly work in the island of Mallorca, however they also develop other projects abroad such as a church in Belgium in Herentals.
Their work has received different awards, among which stand the Spanish Biennial BEAU XV award in 2021, and the BEAU XIV in 2018, the international FAD award 2018, the interior FAD award 2018 or the Brick award 2020. They have been twice selected as finalist for the Swiss Award, 2020 and 2022. Last year 2025 they received the La Casa de La Arquitectura Award 2025 for Can Gabriel, the Grand Prize Big Mat in the category of proximity for Ca na Birgit, the Holcim Sustainable Award in the region of Europe for the school in Gaüses and the Spanish Biennial BEAU XVII award also for Can Gabriel.

HoRAbaixa verrijst als een open plek in het bos, een piazza die herinnert aan een eeuwenoude agora. Het ontwerp vormt een perimeter van kolommen; een primitieve omheining opgetrokken uit zware, lokale Belgische blauwhardsteen.
Deze stenen dienen als de blijvende fundamenten voor een plek die balanceert tussen een ruïne en monument.
Centraal staat een fragiele tempietto: een muziekkiosk die dienst doet als altaar voor de DJ en als toren en draagstructuur. Deze campanile is een eerbetoon aan circulariteit, vervaardigd uit hergebruikt hout dat hier aan zijn derde leven begint na twee eerdere podiumontwerpen in dit hart van het park. Door de kwetsbare verbindingen te beschermen met rode dennenteer, wordt het proces van ontmantelen, herstellen en hergebruiken zichtbaar en tastbaar gemaakt.
Boven de dansvloer in de campanile hangt een grote, rode zon die nooit ondergaat. Een rijzende zon waarrond mensen samenkomen en dansen; het kloppende hart van de collectieve energie van Horst. HoRAbaixa is meer dan alleen een podium; Het is een folie die uitnodigt tot toenadering. Deze langlevende interventie versmelt met het park en laat de natuur gedijen. Terwijl het hout veroudert en de stenen hun patina krijgen, wordt de voortgang van de tijd een tastbaar onderdeel van deze nieuw-oude plek.

Ze werken bij voorkeur aan kleinschalige projecten, hoofdzakelijk op het eiland Mallorca, hoewel ze ook projecten in het buitenland ontwikkelen waaronder een kerk in België in Herentals.
Hun oeuvre is bekroond met verschillende prijzen, waaronder de Spaanse Biënnale BEAU XV (2021) en BEAU XIV (2018), de internationale FAD-award (2018), de FAD-award voor interieur (2018) en de Brick Award (2020). Ze waren tweemaal finalist voor de Swiss Award (2020 en 2022).
